Turkey Cooking Instructions For a Turkey Deep FryerI thought I should take the time to create an instruction manual for you to follow while cooking a turkey with a deep fryer. Since this is a little unorthodox, you at least need some guidance for this. Cooking time: 3 minutes per pound. Obviously you're going to start by setting up everything outside. Before you start pooring oil into your pot for cooking the turkey you need to measure how much you're going to need. This can be difficult since a turkey takes up such a huge amount of space inside the pot. The best way I have come across is that you put the turkey in the pot and fill it up with water. Get the water level about an inch above the turkey. Now remove the turkey and water should give you an exact level you should fill up with the oil. Before you put the turkey in, you have to meassure the temperature of the oil and make sure it is the best. It should be at least 325F. I try to aim anywhere in between 325-350F. If you go to high you're going to burn your turkey and if you go to slow things will cook to slow. At this point you need to place the turkey in its lowering basket. This is the safest way for you to put the turkey into the pot without having to worry about hot oil splashing you. This works really easily, as long as you lower it slowly. If you go too fast the hot oil might get too volatile. After it has been cooked (remember the time frame) you just raise the basket out of the oil and turn off the heat. Clean Up It this point you're going to have to let things sit for a while. We're talking about a lot of hot oil here, so it will take some time. Don't start moving things around either because you could easily spill it and you don't want something that hot to spill. Just leave everything to cool, while you eat your turkey and enjoy your meal. Come back later and start putting all this stuff away. |
